Submit Arrival Documents to ISSS
All international students and exchange visitors must submit arrival documents to UConn by the I-20 or DS-2019 start date listed on your form. This is how you formally report your arrival to the school. If you do not submit your arrival documents, your F-1 or J-1 visa status could be cancelled. Here is how to submit your arrival documents to ISSS by completing ALL 5 Steps below:
Step 1 of 5: Update your personal information
Update your personal information (address, phone, email, emergency contact):
- Update your SEVIS address in the ISSS Portal
- Update Your Address in Student Admin for UConn
- Current Local Address
- Phone Number (U.S. phone number, or phone number you are using in the U.S.)
- Personal email address (select Personal)
- Emergency Contact (name, country, phone, email)
Step 2 of 5: Print your I-94 Record
Your I-94 is your official record of arrival to the United States. You must print this and give a copy to ISSS each time you enter the U.S. on your F or J visa.
Print Your I-94 Admission Record (Select "Get most recent I-94")
If you enter by land/car, your I-94 will be a paper slip attached to your passport. You must submit a scanned or electronic copy of your I-94 with your Online Check-In documentation.
If your I-94 cannot be found, try these tips to locate your record.
- Enter your information again, slowly to make sure there are no typos.
- If your name differs on your passport and visa, try using the name as it appears in the passport.
- Try switching your “Family Name” and “First (Given) Name”.
- The search is case sensitive. Try all lower case letters.
- If you have two passports with the valid visa in the old passport, try using each passport number.
- If you have multiple names, try eliminating the space between them, or removing the last few letters.
- Try using the machine readable name spelling from your passport (e.g. PMUSALAST<<FIRST<NAME<<<).
- Try switching the month and day of your Birth Date (e.g. 10/03/1985 and 03/10/1985).
- Try entering your visa number instead of your passport number.
- If you have a Mexican passport, try eliminating the first two digits of the passport number.
If it still cannot be found, or if your I-94 has errors or is incorrect, you can email international@uconn.edu, and your ISSS Advisor will contact U.S. Customs and Border Protection on your behalf to find or correct your record.
Step 3 of 5: Scan or take photos of your documents
1. Scan or take photos of your:
- Passport (with photo, biographical information and expiration date visible)
- Current F or J visa
- Form I-20/DS-2019 used to enter the U.S. with your signature on Page 1
- I-94 record
- If your F-2/J-2 dependent family members have come with you, take copies of the same immigration documents for them.
You will need to upload these arrival documents via the ISSS Submit Arrival Documents record in the ISSS Portal.
Step 4 of 5: Submit your arrival documents in ISSS Portal
Log in to the ISSS Portal to submit arrival documents online. The first time you log into the portal you may be asked to update personal information in your profile, and confirm that you updated your personal information in StudentAdmin (Step 1 of this To-Do list) before proceeding to the check-in form.

More Arrival Tips
- If you are on Storrs campus, visit the Lodewick Visitors Center and ask for a campus map.
- Pick up your Husky One Card from the One Card Office
- Attend your required orientation program
- Complete required trainings for undergraduates and graduate students
- Apply for your U-Pass
- Set up a bank account
- If you have a car, set up your parking pass
- Check your Student Admin account for any holds that need to be resolved
- Check the UConn Bookstore for required course materials. If your course is not listed you will probably learn this from your course syllabus (when available) or your instructor will probably notify you if something must be completed before the first day of class.
What not to do right away:
- Do not apply for a Social Security Number (SSN) until 10 days have passed since you submitted your arrival documents to ISSS. You must submit your arrival documents and request a Social Security letter from ISSS to apply for your Social Security Number. UConn will sponsor an event for new students at the Storrs campus to apply for Social Security Numbers.
- Do not apply for a Connecticut driver's license or non-driver ID card. You must first submit your arrival documents and apply to the Social Security Administration for a Social Security Number, or a Social Security denial letter (if you do not work in the U.S.).
- Do not purchase a car. To purchase a car and legally register it for driving, you must have a CT driver's license or non-driver ID card.
