Your first step to request your I-20/DS-2019 is completing the Financial Declaration Form and gather funding support documentation.
- International students on F or J visas must have enough funding available to meet the estimated cost of attendance for your program. In your I-20 or DS-2019 request form, you will upload documents to show how you will meet your first year in your program and a signed Financial Declaration form.
- Estimated costs for most programs are listed on this page. If you do not see the estimated cost for your program please contact international@uconn.edu. The estimated costs are not exact; your actual costs may be higher or lower than what is listed. All estimates are based on full-time course registration during a 9-month academic year, except where noted.
- Fees include a $350 visa compliance fee charged each semester to international students on UConn visas to meet costs of providing immigration services and visa sponsorship.
Guidelines for Funding Support
In addition to the Financial Declaration Form, you must submit documents for all sources of expected funding to cover at least your first year of estimated expenses. Examples include bank statements (belonging to you or a supporting sponsor), a scholarship/fellowship letter, or a Graduate Assistantship offer letter. Your documents must meet the following guidelines:
- Issued within last three months
- Issued in English (or submitted with official translation)
- Bank Statements: must identify the bank/institution name, the name of account holder and currency (can be local currency)
- Personal Sponsor/Family Funding: must be liquid funds e.g. savings/banking statements or certificates of deposit (no investment fund statements, retirement plans, salary/income confirmation, property/assets verification, etc.) and your sponsor must complete Part 2: Personal Sponsor Declaration of the Financial Declaration form
- SACM Scholarship recipients must provide BOTH the Financial Guarantee Award Letter AND a letter confirming your amount of living stipend (either the SACM U.S. Definition of Funding Letter or the letter from your sponsoring University confirming stipend award)
- If you will attend a summer program before starting an academic year program your funding must cover the estimated expenses for the summer program AND the first academic year of your degree program.
Bringing Family on Dependent Visas
If you have accompanying dependents (spouse & unmarried children under the age of 21) your estimated cost of attendance will be higher than the base cost of attendance listed below. You must show funding for yourself and all dependents who will require an F-2/J-2 visa.
Accompanying Dependent – Spouse | Additional $7,305 |
Accompanying Dependent – Each Child | Additional $5,450 |
