The University has many academic resources to help you. We strongly encourage you to seek help from these resources if you are having difficulties with your coursework, or even to support learning in classes where you are doing well.
It is very important that you get permission from ISSS to withdraw from your course(s), if withdrawing will bring your total enrollment below 12 credits. Please reply to me or make an appointment as soon as possible to discuss your options (you can click on my name from the ISSS staff page to make an in-person or virtual appointment). If we meet and decide that you are able to drop below 12 credits, we will give you an updated I-20 with approval to take a “Reduced Course Load”. Do not drop below 12 credits before receiving a new I-20 – this is a violation of your visa status, if you are in the United States.
Academic Standing:
If you are an undergraduate student and your semester GPA is below a 1.8 (students with 0-23 credits) or below a 2.0 (students with 24 credits or more) you will be placed on academic probation for the following term. If you are on academic probation for two semesters in a row, you may be dismissed from the University. If you are dismissed from UConn, your SEVIS record will be terminated and your F-1 student visa status will not be valid. Please visit the Scholastic Standing webpage [http://scholasticstanding.uconn.edu/] and read the International Students topic.
Emotional Support and Resources:
The stress of midterms and adjusting to life in a different country can take a toll on your mental and emotional well-being. UConn Student Health and Wellness – Mental Health services provides support options through individual counseling, and other formats. Learn more here.
Students who are outside the U.S. can find local mental health support resources, here.
